Live ACTV waterbuses (vaporetto): positions, delays and lines

Where Venice waterbuses are right now, how late they are and when they reach the next stop. Positions come from the vehicles' GPS published by ACTV; when the feed is missing, the map shows boats simulated from the official timetable and says so.

How live tracking works

GPS positions of waterbuses, buses and trams broadcast by ACTV, when the feed is available, kept separate from the timetable simulation. For vehicles reporting their trip: delay against the timetable (coloured ring) and estimated arrival at the next stop; in the stop card, the next arrivals in real time.

Delay computed from the GPS position against the official timetable trip with the same line and departure (not at a pier or far from the route), checked against the delay reported by ACTV in the TripUpdates feed: if they differ by more than 15 minutes it is not shown; when the calculation is not possible ACTV's value is used. Times at later stops are ACTV estimates; no delay is shown if the data is older than 2 minutes. ACTV GTFS-Realtime VehiclePositions feeds for waterbus and bus networks, read by /api/realtime/vehicles with a 20-second cache. Listed as “Open Data Real Time” in the ACTV data catalogue (art. 53 CAD).
